ABOUT ABOVE CHAOS
How did it all start? Was there a significant event or was it more a continuous progress that brought you to what you are doing today?
I always had a particular taste for arts. I started learning and practicing music when I was 4 years old. Drawing has been an outlet during my youth. I learnt and developed it by my own. During my scientific studies in computer science, I was involved in the local music world where I used to do small graphics for bands, shows, and associations. After my studies, I joined my two skills, art and computer science, and I started to work in web design. After bad experiences, I fled the world of big companies and social hierarchies, and decided to start working on my own, in the way I decided. So I started to work on launching Above Chaos Studio officially.
Where does your Artist name come from?
“Above Chaos” suggest that in order to understand Chaos, to picture it, describe model, we need to step back and sense from an external point of view, take height... Above, around, nearby..
What does it mean to you to create your art?
At first my art is composed by things I like, things I have an interest in, and things I like to dig into. I'm not really good to express myself with words. So my art is the expression of my thought, questions and developments, and things I would like to express but without knowing how else. It's also an unconscious personal analysis and perception of our world and society.
What would happen if one would prevent you from doing art?
Nobody could prevent me from doing Art. My art is a part of me, it's things I need to express. Nobody can prevent me from expressing myself.
Where are you drawing inspiration from?
Among artists who inspire me graphically there are Gustave Doré, Giger, Olivier Ledroit, Druillet, Rembrandt, Dali. A lot of fields interest me and inspire me artistically, such as religion, science, alchemy, nature, death, life, mythologies.
Are there some certain principles or guidelines you apply when creating a new piece? Not only with regards to your art itself but also to the environment you create in, your surroundings, the atmosphere?
I need particular conditions to create. At first I need an inspiring atmosphere around me. I organized my workstation this way. Music helps to create the atmosphere. Music from a band I'm working with, or another music style, which will help me to create the right working atmosphere so the good graphical direction.
What do you feel when you create?
I can be happy because I like very much to create. But it's also hard with some projects to transfer my feelings into a piece of art. Also it can be a very hard work to spend weeks doing dot work on the same drawing.
Why are you doing what you are doing? What is the purpose behind? Is there a grand philosophy behind your art?
I work on combining opposites, to mix opposites in the same entities : life / death – human / god – human / animal – light / obscurity – graceful / shocking. Our modern world, with politics, media, social networks are tending to simplify the world into “the good” and “the bad”. But the wold is not like that, he is a combination of opposites, shades of opposites, and I want to show it.
